Testing begins for Next Generation Storage

After scoping discussions with IBM, the vendor for the Spectrum Scale storage system, components for the high performance storage have arrived on-site and a dedicated team of engineers are undertaking the responsibilities for testing the new system.

Once installed, the Next Generation Storage system will form the backbone behind the iRods database - a central component of the sequencing workflows at the Sanger, and a crucial resource enabling a diverse range of research across the programmes.

The testing phase is a pillar of the Next Generation Storage project, and will enable the scientists at the Sanger to accelerate their science with an AI-ready performant platform for sequencing operations and bioinformatics pipelines.
