Project Highlights

The projects that our RSE and RTP team work on are diverse in their scope and can range from gatherin CO2-equivalent data for batch jobs on HPC to producing scalable AI workflows for imaging analysis in cellular genetics.

We list a few highlights in this page

Cloud Highlights

The award winning on-premises cloud facilities have enabled a huge range of science across the Sanger Institute.

This includes web services such as the Monocle database and the COSMiC database, as well as empowering sequencing pipelines - producing a platform capable of sequencing over 3000 human genomes a month.

The OpenStack cloud facilities additionally host local imaging analysis platforms for cellular genomics and facilitate informatics platforms across all the research programmes.

Streamlining AI Workflows

In support of the research initiatives of the AICE lab, and the CASM research programme, the ability to fully utilise the power of many GPU was required to match the needs of their intensive AI workflows.

Quantum Pangenomics

Recent advances in genomic research, driven by the rapid growth of sequencing technologies and data analysis methods, have raised questions about the adequacy of single reference genomes in capturing the full genetic diversity of species. Pangenomics, the study of multiple complete genomes in tandem, provides a more comprehensive approach by analysing the entire genetic variation within a species, rather than relying on a single reference genome.
